One Year of A Visual Diary

It’s officially been a year since I published Jazzmine Marie: A Visual Diary. I created this blog to freely share my art and the stories behind my photography without the anxiety I experience with social media. I also started this blog as a dedication to my grandma, Bettie Marie, for gifting me my first camera at age eight.

Spring into Summer ’21

Here are some film photos shot using my Olympus OM2-N between April to July 2021. Fujifilm Fujicolor 200 has been my go-to roll over the past year. These were shot all over San Diego from Barrio Logan to Hillcrest, Del Mar Fair, Little Italy, and more! ENJOY!

Palm Canyon

I just wanted to share some photos of my “location crush,” Palm Canyon, located here in San Diego at Balboa Park. It’s one of the many trails that run through the park, but this one in particular just so happens to be my favorite visually. I’ve been obsessed with this location since I first laid eyes on it almost a decade ago. I have this thing for palm trees, and Palm Canyon just so happens to have over 50 different species of them!!! It could be a Californian thing. It could be because I’m an earth sign (♑️). Who knows, but the obsession is REAL.

Seeing San Diego

It’s been a minute, but I have some good news! Some of my photography was recently featured in Black SD Magazine’s April Issue, my first printed publication! I couldn’t be more excited to be featured alongside so many other examples of black excellence we have here in San Diego. The feature is titled “See San Diego Through Their Lenses,” featuring myself and the very talented Angela Ledyard.

OB Meets Venice

Some of the best photos that I’ve ever shot are the spontaneous ones, and even the ones I doubted I’d like at all. This was a different situation, mostly user error, but more on that later… The cars in these photos caught my eye while I was wandering through Ocean Beach a few weeks ago, and the palms you see in the bottom were shot from my hotel balcony in Venice Beach, California, just three nights ago.

Jazz, The Photo Student

If you didn’t already know, I’m a photography student. I started taking photography classes two years ago, after switching from nursing to a photo & digital imaging major (I talk more about this in my introductory blog). It’s been a fantastic experience being able to do what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s also cool being surrounded by people who feel the same way. The photo department is terrific at my school. We have a studio, darkroom, Mac desktops, scanners, printers, cameras, lenses, strobes, and pretty much whatever equipment we need available for check-out. We also have FREE access to all the Adobe Creative Cloud apps, which is a huge bonus since I practically live in Photoshop and Lightroom.
