Some of the best photos that I’ve ever shot are the spontaneous ones, and even the ones I doubted I’d like at all. This was a different situation, mostly user error, but more on that later… The cars in these photos caught my eye while I was wandering through Ocean Beach a few weeks ago, and the palms you see in the bottom were shot from my hotel balcony in Venice Beach, California, just three nights ago.

I recently had the chance to collaborate with my friend Brandon of B. Towner Photography and gorgeous model Yamillette Flores. B. is a veteran, like myself, who has discovered a love of shooting environmental fashion portraits. Personally, I’ve always loved fashion photography. I still subscribe to printed magazines like Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar just to see the fashion photography editorials. Gucci ads are always my favorite because I never know what to expect (see examples below).

To anyone grieving a loss this holiday season, know that my heart is with yours. This year was my first Christmas/birthday without my Grandpa Ralph, who passed away earlier this year in September. Since I could remember, my grandparents have always been the first people I’ve talked to every Christmas morning, but things were different this year. I called my grandma, and that’s when reality hit. It’s an adjustment for all of us, but I feel for my grandmother the most since they were together for 60+ years (could you imagine being with one person for that long???!).

I recently collaborated with Black SD Magazine to paint SD pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Black SD Magazine is a digital publication that promotes and supports Black businesses and creatives here in SD, and I’m all for it. This month, they’re working in partnership with the American Cancer Society & Maya’s Cookies to raise awareness and encourage Black women to get screened for breast cancer early on. Their goal is to raise $2,500 for the cause, so I’ll be linking their website here.

If you didn’t already know, I’m a photography student. I started taking photography classes two years ago, after switching from nursing to a photo & digital imaging major (I talk more about this in my introductory blog). It’s been a fantastic experience being able to do what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s also cool being surrounded by people who feel the same way. The photo department is terrific at my school. We have a studio, darkroom, Mac desktops, scanners, printers, cameras, lenses, strobes, and pretty much whatever equipment we need available for check-out. We also have FREE access to all the Adobe Creative Cloud apps, which is a huge bonus since I practically live in Photoshop and Lightroom.
